photograms /rayographs
Photograms are photographic images taken without a camera by taking objects and putting them on top of photographic paper then put it in the light and there will be a negative shadow the variatiOn of tones are controlled by transparency. the technique of photography is sometimes called rayography. it was used by a man called Man Ray originally who was experimenting with rayographs throughout his life time. He was born in 1890 and died in 1976 this new way of taking images made him a name for himself in photography.
This is an image by Man Ray taken in 1922. What i like about this image is the shadowing on the objects as you have the bright white shade of the object but the slightly darker less defined more shadowy parts of the image. I also like the choice of objects he has chose to use as there is a wide variety of shapes and sizes of objects which contrast well I also think his choice of placement make the image good with isolated shapes and over lapping shapes. In my opinion it could be even better if he had experimented more with the shadowy and less clear shapes to make more blurred images where you are less certain of what the objects are.
This was one of my favourite images that i found while searching the internet.
I like how it is quite simple but affective i like how the spring/slinky thing has come out . i also like
the object in the background has come out and how it is fainter than the other object. aswell as that i think the way the springs individual coils are very fine at the top but all begin to merge into one as the object goes down further. I feel it would be even better if they had a shape that was a bit more defined to contrast the other shapes.

I also like this image as it isn't cluttered with loads of different shapes it has one centre piece in the middle and thats it. i like the contrast between the sharp thin lines and the big blurred shape. for some reason it looks like something in space to me maybe because of the blurry shape in the background. I also like the fact you aren't so sure of what the image is unlike most other images where there are a few object really clearly depicted in the image. I also like the blurriness that spreads of the central object going towards the top and bottom right corners as i think thats another nice way of experimenting the the definition of the object. This image is my favourite out of all i have seen on the internet.
My own images
My favourite two images are the 2 furthest left. I like them the most as I feel they came out the most successful and where the closest to what I had imagined. My favourite thing about the bottom left image is how the fainter circles came out in the middle of the object I also like how the image has different tones and brightnesses to each line. My favourite thing about the top left is that the tones and lines on the bulb actually show the 3d sphere of the bulb. The filament in the bulb also came out a lot better than I was expecting with lots of detail. My least favourite are the images of the tapes as they came out very blurry and have no definition which although looks good in some styles of photographs it doesn't suit this image very well.
