Food and Drink.
For my six week project i am going to be making images linked to the theme food and drink.
First set of photos.
These images have very different lighting the top 3 photos are quite dark and have very low lighting, The bottom 3 are quite bright and well lit. Also the top 3 images are less cluttered and have less objects in them and the bottom 3 have more going on in them and lots of objects, lights, shadows and reflections in them so there is more to look at in them . In the top and bottom images there are experiments with focus and light and looking at background and foreground focus.
Vik Muniz
Is an artist who used food to remake famous portraits. For example he used beans to remake a portrait of Che Guevara and melted chocolate to make a portrait of Sigman Freud and he used jam and peanut butter to remake to Mona Lisa. I thought I could attempt to make my own versions using stencils and coffee granules , rice and other grains which i could then turn these images into clips of the image forming and then going back into nothing.
Caitlin levin , Henry Hargreaves.
Caitlin Levin and Henry Hargreaves use rice to recreate famous Rothko images out of rice. They used molds and dyed rice to create the shape of each Rothko painting. All the rice poured together gives the impression of one block of colour rather than lots of granules. They also use paint with the rice witch gives a nice affect . My favourite image is the far right image below with the sprinkling of rice and line of paint i think the colours look really good in that one.
Photo experiments in school
I took these images in school as i felt i didn't have enough photos of my own on here . I doubt that any of these will be involved in my final piece however my favourite images are of the bottles. This is because i like the way the foreground is unfocused and the background is focused with all the detailed drops of water as all the condensation making it like tunnel vision. I think my worst image is the one of the sandwich pack as I don't think its as good as the others .
Photo experiments at home inspired by
I took these images by putting a piece of coloured plastic over a lamp then putting the orange on so the same piece of fruit comes out in different colours i also changed the shutter speed of each photo the darker images with the quicker shutter speed the lighter ones with a slower shutter speed.I like all of these images however the images could be improved if i experiment more with the shutter speed until i find the best possible one. Also some of the images are out of focus and that could be improved. I hope to use improved versions of these to create a stain glass window affect.
Olivier Richom
Olivier Richom is a Swiss photographer who's pictures often feature food staged as their centrepiece. His images are inspired by paintings from 17th century holland where holland was freed from rule by Spain and went back to a protestant country the artists where used to doing religious paintings. However the as they were now in a protestant country they weren't allowed to paint religious characters so they went on to paint staged images with food. Almost to show of their possessions and the fact that holland had a big navy for those times they were often drawing exotic foods. On the left a Olivier Richom image on the right a original 17th century painting.
Second attempt
I think these images came out better than my first attempt because they seem more in focus and detailed than the first attempt where some where a bit out of focus. As well as that I experimented more with how close to the camera the fruit was and the distance of the fruit from the light and so on. I used the same colour background light for these ones how ever the green didn't come out as well as its not as clear as the blue which i think came out very well.
I decided to put lots of different images on top of each other and then fade them into each other so they all formed different colours and shapes together.
