Unit 1
The first project we did in unit 1 was Wrong where we looked at images we saw as wrong and whether their could be good 'wrong' images. This was inspired by John Baldessari specifically his image titled name wrong which inspired the entire project. We Also looked at street photography what it is and all the different types and ways of taking street photography images. When studying this we looked at a film called 'everybody street ' which was all about street photography interviewing famous street photographers about their experiences. I then went on to look at one specific photographer who's images I found the most interesting called Jeff Mermelstein. For another project where I selected the theme of openings I looked at a few different photographers who had taken images that could be linked to my theme. For example I had looked at Lee Friedlander and his images linked to Openings where he took images out of car windows. And finally for my mock on the theme food and drink I used mainly images for research and inspiration from artists like Vik Muniz and looked at Olivier Richoms work. Over unit one my range of techniques expanded as I found new ways of taking and presenting images through experimenting with such techniques as rayographs, cyanotypes, pinhole cameras and techniques such as painting with light. As well as that over the year I learnt about how to use photoshop to improve or change your images and I came across different ways of presenting work whether in frames or other medias of presenting my work by looking at past final pieces from school , going to exhibitions and searching on the internet to find different ideas.
For mobile photography I think lots of my images came out looking quite nice they mainly featured light and were taken out at different angles. They could have been better if I selected a few and then framed them or presented them better. For street photography I think they could have definitely been thinned out as some images were way more successful than others and fit in with the theme street photography more than others. For openings I was pleased with my first final piece The image of the train window views with a green tint to them and the other piece which is similar both linked to the theme of transport however the second one came out way to dark when printed as I put a black tint over the image they both link to the theme of openings as the images were taken out of openings in trains . The idea was to show a journey through the sequence of images out of the train showing the different scenes along the way out of the window . If I had done this again I would have only tint the image with lighter colours as you can still see the pictures properly with the colour over them I would also have probably taken more photos as it would only add to the affect of the image representing a journey . I was pleased with my final pieces for food and drink theme and I thought they came out very well, especially after I made them slightly brighter which made them more defined and probably made the colours look better as when printed out darker all the colours seem to merge into a dark blur where as when made brighter the images the colours are clearer as because the images are layered the brightness allows you to depict colours in some parts but also see the colours mixed together in some parts. If I did this again I would maybe take more images using a bigger range of colours and experiment with the amount of photos I layer over each other some photos with lots of layers and others with 2 or 3 as you could then see different levels of detail colour and brightness according to the amount of layers.
